For systems that specify fresh tabs for each wear, the used tab has already been compressed and exposed to oils, dust, or moisture. Placing a fresh tab over old adhesive creates an uneven surface and can change how the press-on sits. Remove the old adhesive using the maker’s recommended method and inspect the underside for leftover ridges.

If residue remains stubborn, do not scrape so aggressively that you thin the nail. A damaged reusable press-on is not more valuable than a clean spare.

Check the fit again on every reuse

The natural nail may have grown slightly and the artificial nail may have changed during removal or storage. Dry-fit each piece before a new tab is applied. A nail that once sat perfectly can feel different if the underside has residual adhesive or the shell has warped.

Pay special attention to thumbnails and any nail that was filed during the first wear. Store customization notes so you do not accidentally swap a similar-looking piece to the wrong finger.

Use a fresh tab sized to the bonding area

Know when the reusable piece is finished

Reuse should stop when the press-on cracks, warps, loses a stable curve, or cannot sit flush even after the underside is clean. The same applies if repeated cleaning makes the shell too thin or rough to use predictably. Retiring one damaged nail does not necessarily mean discarding the whole set if you have a compatible spare.
